Rachna Korhonen is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service. From July 2014 – June 2017, she was the Management Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Colombo. She often served as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’ Affaires ad interim during the Ambassador and DCM’s absence from post. Prior to her arrival in Colombo, she served in Washington, D.C. as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Management where she was responsible for working multi-lateral issues involving security and consular services. Ms. Korhonen was the Political Chief at the Provisional Reconstruction Team in Kirkuk, Iraq from 2009 to 2010 during a time of major upheaval as Erbil and Baghdad negotiated local elections. Ms. Korhonen joined the State Department in 2004 and has also served in Riyadh, Kuwait, and Mumbai. She is married to Juha Korhonen and they have three children.
